Probe Extensions
There are two main styles of extensions used on most probe
systems. The two styles offer unique capabilities based on
touch probe style, the access to features, and capabilities
of your CMM.
The
most common extension style is where the extension is used
between the touch probe and stylus as shown above. This
provides a low cost solution to most inspection needs. The
concern that is raised by using this method is the increase
in probe pre-travel and repeatability. The longer the
extension, the greater the inaccuracies. The second extension style is the use of extensions the mount between the probe head and touch probe body, as illustrated below in the kit table. This style moves the touch probe closer to your features and reduces potential probe error by reducing the length of the distance between the stylus ball and the touch trigger probe. |
